Freedom is who we really are not something that is given to us.

Why we must see where we give our power away.

It has been the craziest year of all of our lives.

Everything we had previously known has been brought into question.

The things we once thought so solid and real, they don’t feel so certain anymore.

We took many things for granted; friends and family, our livelihoods, even just simple human touch and connection.

And, we’ve been at the bequest of government guidance for our freedom for far too long now.

With the very recent relaxing of restrictions and the much discussed ‘roadmap to freedom’, we are supposed to feel grateful for things that are actually our birthright.

Freedom is not something we are given, it is who we are.

Even when forces outside of us exert control over us, we still have the freedom to choose how we respond.

Nobody can ever take that away.

But, too many people have allowed that to happen.

You see, we give our power away to things outside of ourselves because we want to fit in, we want to be liked, because we are frightened of being rejected.

But, we’ll never know true joy when we give our power away like that, more often than not we experience its exact opposite - fear.

We are frightened when we don’t trust ourselves or trust the universe, trust god - whatever you want to call that higher part of yourselves; you know, the one we often only call out for during our trials and tribulations.

This year has been many things to many people. Regardless, it has been a golden opportunity to re-assess, re-evaluate, re-discover, re-connect, re-new.

So, when we venture back out into the world now, let us not forget what we might have learnt from this whole experience.

Let’s not squander those valuable lessons and just dive complacently back into life without some heartfelt consideration.

Let’s remember to be patient, to be tolerant, to be loving, to just be kind to one another.

“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time.” - T.S.Eliot.
